[ARCHIVED] Town of Fountain Hills Appoints Elizabeth Burke to Serve as Town Clerk

July 2, 2018 – The Town of Fountain Hills announced the hiring of Flagstaff City Clerk Elizabeth Burke to fill the vacancy left by Bevelyn Bender who officially retires on July 5.

“We are very pleased to have a seasoned professional such as Liz Burke join the Fountain Hills team,” said Town Manager Grady Miller.  “Liz brings with her nearly 30 years of municipal clerk experience from highly respected cities in Arizona,” continued Miller.

Elizabeth “Liz” A. Burke, MMC (Master Municipal Clerk), started her career in the municipal clerk profession in 1984 with the City of Show Low, where she served as Deputy City Clerk for five years and became City Clerk in 1989, the same year she received her CMC (Certified Municipal Clerk) designation. After serving nearly 19 years, she moved to Flagstaff and served as City Clerk for one year, before entering the private sector for a short time.

In 2000, she was the second Arizona clerk to receive her MMC, and in 2004 she received her Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University, in business, with a focus in public service. In 2005, she became the City Clerk for Prescott, Arizona, serving for seven years until returning to the City of Flagstaff in 2012 as City Clerk.

Ms. Burke served as Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Arizona Municipal Clerks’ Association (AMCA) from 1992 to 2000. She has chaired the AMCA Education Committee twice, and has been involved with various committees over the years, including membership on the AMCA Legislative Committee. She is both a Certified Municipal Election Official (AMCA) and a Certified Election Officer with the State of Arizona. In May 2016 Ms. Burke became a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Board of Directors, serving as one of the Region VIII Directors.

Ms. Burke has family living in the Valley and is looking forward to working for the Town of Fountain Hills.  “Fountain Hills is a wonderful community.  I am looking forward to both living in and working for the Town of Fountain Hills,” said Burke.
