In response to a significant increase in fraud and scam cases, which include multiple Fountain Hills victims, the Town is partnering with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) to host a free public presentation aimed at protecting residents from financial crimes.
The Fraud and Scam Protection event will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Fountain Hills Community Center, located at 13001 N La Montana Dr. The presentation will be conducted by the MCSO Financial Crimes Unit, which has seen a substantial rise in fraudulent activity, particularly schemes targeting seniors and other vulnerable populations. Just this year, MCSO notes that losses across Maricopa County total in the tens of millions of dollars.
According to the MCSO Financial Crimes Unit, recent fraud trends include identity theft, online scams, phishing attacks, and imposter schemes, many of which are sophisticated and convincing. The unit is committed to educating the public and equipping residents with tools to recognize and prevent these crimes before they occur.
“Awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have to protect our community,” said Mike Pelton, Community Relations Director for the Town of Fountain Hills. “This event is part of our continued efforts to keep Fountain Hills safe and informed.”
The event is open to all residents. Attendees will learn about current scam tactics, warning signs, and practical steps to protect their personal and financial information.
There is no need to register to attend the event. For additional information, reach out to Community Relations Director Mike Pelton at MPelton@FountainHillsAZ.Gov.
