FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ (December 9th, 2024) – An automatic recount conducted by Maricopa County confirmed incumbent Peggy McMahon the winner of the race for Town Councilmember.
Results from the November 5th, 2024, General Election showed McMahon leading Mathew Corrigan by seven (7) votes. Given the narrow margin (0.5% or less), the race went to an automatic recount. The results, unsealed during a hearing in Maricopa County Superior Court Monday, showed there were no variances identified in the recount for the Fountain Hills Town Councilmember contest.
The results affirm McMahon receiving 6,592 votes, and Corrigan 6,585.
The Town of Fountain Hills was one of several races statewide that went to an automatic recount, which was initiated though the appropriate legal process following the canvass of the election results by Maricopa County.
McMahon and Corrigan’s vote totals were in close contention for the second of two available Council seats. Rick Watts received the most overall votes in this race, but given it went to an automatic recount, he was also subject to the recount and not yet seated on the Town Council.
The recount results affirm McMahon and Watts as the two winners of this contest. McMahon and Watts will be sworn in during the December 10th, 2024, Town Council Special Meeting.
The Town of Fountain Hills extends gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Maricopa County Elections Department who worked on weekends, and even Thanksgiving, to conduct the recount.
