Friends of the Library Annual Shred-A-Thon
Saturday, April 20, 2024
9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Fountain Hills High School parking lot (Palisades and Hampstead)
Shredding Sensitive Documents -
Many people still dispose of important documents into the regular trash. This should not be done because there is sensitive information on some of those documents that could fall into the wrong hands and lead to identity theft. According to the U.S. Department of Justice many criminals obtain sensitive information printed or written on documents of citizens that are taken from everyday trash containers.
Things to Know -
- All documents are shredded on site and then brought to a recycling facility and recycled.
- Please be kind and remember to bring three-box limit per vehicle.
- We can shred: bank statements, legal documents, personal correspondence, and medical records (excluding x-rays).
- We cannot shred: newspapers, magazines, junk mail, hard-cover or hanging file folders, 3-ring binders, or plastics.
- Documents must not be left unattended and will not be processed unless you are there. No hardcover folders will be taken. Make sure large bundles of papers are loosened and remove clips, binding and other metal objects from all documents.
The shredding is free! The Friends of the Library gratefully accept donations. Your gifts help provide for Summer and Winter Reading Programs, Book Clubs, two post-secondary Scholarships, Library Furnishings, and Technology as well as Front Porch Performances and Storyteller Events. www.fhfl.org
