Project Update – Palomino Road Improvements
The Town has begun the first phase of improvements along Palomino Boulevard, starting with curb repairs and replacements. This work is the foundation for the upcoming repaving of the roadway. Crews are working in stages to minimize disruption, and every effort is being made to keep access open and services running smoothly.
Things to Know
- Trash and recycling services will not be interrupted. Please place your can where collection trucks can reach them. Town staff will provide support on collection days to ensure cans are accessible.
- If curb replacement impacts your driveway, a separate notice will be placed on your door with details on removal, replacement, and when the driveway will be usable again.
- On certain days, crews may start earlier than usual to allow for concrete placement.
- Work is weather dependent; schedules may shift slightly due to rain or extreme heat.
- Crews are working on curb replacement on the westbound/north side of the road.
- Barricades will be set on the eastbound/south side in the near future, with curb replacement to follow.
- Access to mailboxes and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
- Please drive carefully when traveling through the work zone. Reduced speeds and extra attention will help keep workers and drivers safe.
- Parking may be restricted in active construction areas. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance where needed.
- Once curb replacement is complete, road paving will follow as the next phase of the project.
------
The long-anticipated reconstruction of Palomino Boulevard is now underway, marking the start of a major capital improvement project aimed at significantly enhancing pavement conditions.
Work began the week of September 2nd, with the removal and repair of concrete curbs. This marks the first visible phase of the project. During this time, some driveways may be temporarily inaccessible and impacted residents will receive advance notice.
The project includes the full-depth removal and replacement of asphalt pavement along Palomino Boulevard from Palisades Boulevard to Fountain Hills Boulevard, an approximately 1.4 mile stretch of road. The current pavement has reached the end of its useful life, and reconstruction is necessary to ensure long-term safety and performance.
Key components of the project include:
- Removal of approximately 49,771 square yards of asphalt
- Installation of new asphalt pavement
- Concrete curb and gutter replacement
- Driveway tie-ins
- Utility adjustments and relocations as needed
- Replacement of two existing curb ramps along Palisades Boulevard
- Reconstruction of approximately 60 feet of very steep sidewalk on Palisades Boulevard — this section will be regraded to reduce the slope and provide a flatter, more ADA-compliant pathway
- Construction of a new curb ramp on the south east corner Fountain Hills Boulevard to support a future sidewalk connection on Fountain Hills Boulevard, and provide a safe refuge area for pedestrians currently walking along the roadway
At this time, there is no confirmed start date for milling and paving the roadway. Town staff are currently reviewing options to ensure cost efficiency and will provide updates when a tentative timeline is established.
The Fountain Hills Town Council approved the project with a budget of $5 million.
The Town appreciates your patience and cooperation during this important infrastructure improvement.
