The Town of Fountain Hills is a StormReady Community.
Being part of a Weather-Ready Nation is about preparing for our community's increasing vulnerability to extreme weather and water events. Americans live in the most severe weather-prone country on Earth. The StormReady program helps arm America's communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property--before, during and after the event. StormReady helps community leaders and emergency managers strengthen local safety programs.
StormReady uses a grassroots approach to help communities develop plans to handle all types of extreme weather—from tornadoes to winter storms. The program encourages communities to take a new, proactive approach to improving local hazardous weather operations by providing emergency managers with clear-cut guidelines on how to improve their hazardous weather operations. Part of being an officially StormReady, a community must develop a formal hazardous weather plan, which includes training severe weather spotters and holding emergency exercises.
If you are interested in becoming a trained weather spotter, contact your local National Weather Service office.
Floods do and will happen in Fountain Hills. Our topography brings water down from the mountains and hills. Water looks for the easiest path, and your doorways are often the entryways through which water can enter. If you haven't prepared for flooding, you may get water in your home.
Sandbags are an excellent deterrent to flood waters entering your home and garages. You can get sand and the bags filled at Fountain Hills Fire Station #1, located at 16426 E Palisades Blvd.
